Biography
Speedy, as called by all who know him, earned his
first Olympic spot with mixed emotions. Fellow teammate, Emily Cooke
had to withdraw from the Olympic Team after injuring herself in a
fluke training jump. Peterson was next in line. Speedy ‘repaid’
Cooke by not only performing with poise and a well earned 9th place
finish, but with a flash of ‘Hi Emily’ written on the
palms of his gloves during an NBC close-up after his jump.
Peterson has had freestyle skiing in his blood since
age 7 when he began skiing and decided to focus on aerials at the
ripe age of 14. His coaches call Speedy “an all’round
good guy who’s totally focused on lifting his game.” His
teammates and friends confer.
In ’99 he won the ’99 junior national
aerials title, brought home a bronze medal at the 2000 and ’01
World Junior Championships and was selected 2001 Freestyle Junior
Skier of the Year by Ski Racing.
Originally from Boise, 22 year old Speedy now resides
in his new home in Park City Utah and can be found training at the
Utah Olympic Sports Park and on his occasional off day, fly fishing
on the Provo River.
