Biography
Bergoust had a rewarding season in 2002 with two
straight World Cup aerials titles, 15 World Cup triumphs and the reigning
overall champion for freestyle. Unfortunately, his only setback in
this heart-stopping season came during the Olympics.
Eric, called Bergy by most, planned to go big to
defend his 1998 Olympic gold medal. During his second jump he went
for it, went a little too big, and landed on his back. Undeterred,
he’s already set his next goals – working on his quint-twist,
doing well again at the World Championships and maybe a three-peat
as World Cup king.
With childhood dreams of becoming a stuntman or
fighter pilot, Bergy ‘settled’ on aerials after watching
the 1985 World Cup on ESPN. His first winter with aerials in 1988,
basically training on his own at Lake Placid, he went on the win the
Nor Am aerials championship. It was just the beginning.
An amazing athlete with an even more amazing outlook
on life, Eric will make an impression that will not soon be forgotten.
