Biography
Perseverance is a word that well describes aerialist
Emily Cook. After losing her spot on the 2002 Olympic team with a
devastating injury to both feet just 3 weeks prior to the Games, Cook
remains optimistic about her future in the sport. After her latest
surgery in mid-June 2003, she is ready to begin her relentless climb
to the 2006 Olympics.
Cook was skiing at 4 and began competing in freestyle
at 14 as a member of the prestigious Carrabassett Valley Academy’s
program in Maine. Cook made a name for herself early on with an aerials
bronze in the 1999 World Juniors in Finland.
She stays busy with her brainchild, “Visa
Champion Creating Champions”, a mentoring program in which Olympians
from a variety of sports work with youngsters who otherwise might
not be exposed. When she’s not coaching kids at the Utah Olympic
Park Cook stays busy climbing, practicing yoga and fly-fishing with
Dad.
If you’re looking for a sunshine outlook on
life and some pointers on perfecting your air maneuvers, Emily is
your ticket.
